My eclectic taste in music
Audioscrobbler is now Last.fm. They made it look prettier, added some functionality, and moved it to a new domain name. Something that they also seem to have done is finally update my ‘musical neighbors’, the list of those who have similar musical tastes to my own. The closest is, oddly enough, my friend Drew (at 37% match), but the next closest is only 19% match. This seems pretty darn low, though there seems to be a lost of variation in neighbor matches amongst the users.
Top 10 artists for myself, in order:

- Athlete

- Death Cab for Cutie
- Silverchair
- Pilate
- Moby
- Rage Against the Machine
- Stars
NIN, Athlete, Moby, Rage, Stars… I’m crazy. Don’t nobody match my taste. And this list isn’t showing my rap/hip-hop, either.

oh well, we are still fiddling with this. The current number is so purely mathematical that is isn’t really representative, as we also take more top artists into account now. and on a longer list exact matches are harder to achieve right? stay tuned, the last word isn’t spoken here, this is only the first incarnation of a vastly faster neighbour calculation system . . .

I’m not worried. I think Last.fm/Audioscrobbler is great, and I’m quite happy ignore the absolute value of the % match, using it in a relative, “this person matches me closer than this other person”, way.
So, who else wants to sign up for Last.fm? Come on, you know you want to influence my choice in music!
