First day of classes
Classes have started again. My schedule is in a state of flux, and I’ve been running around all day getting things taken care of. I’m trying to get my biology/computing medial changed to a biochemistry/computing medial, and it’s a pain — thank goodness it’s mostly done now. I’ve talked to all the profs I needed to, handed in the academic change forms I needed to, and am now in the classes I want to be:
- BCHM316 Metabolism: I’ll be taking this pretty much alone, which is scary.
- CISC332 Database Management Systems: I missed the first class of this because I wasn’t registered in it, and from what I hear the prof’s a bit of a jerk.
- CISC365 Algorithms I: Dawes is a pretty good prof, but I think it’s going to be boring.
- MBIO318 Gene Structure and Function (Molecular Biology): This is looking like it’ll be my most interesting course this year. The prof’s also the biochem undergrad chair, with whom I have an appointment on Friday regarding my medial. He seems pretty good.
Note the lack of a fifth class. Last semester gave me the lowest marks of my academic career, with a 61% in biochem and a 68% in plant life. In order to maintain my honour roll standing, I need to average 84.5% on the four courses. With two CISC courses, I think I have a chance.
I don’t think that we got a long enough break, but fortunately for us March break is in February here at Queen’s. Hopefully I won’t be a nutbasket by then. At least I have a shiny golden Buddha to keep me company…
Edit: My dad convinced me to take a fifth course, so I’m also now in an introductory econ course.

The 332 prof is only a jerk about lateness. He doesn’t like being disrupted by late people, which is totally understandable. There’s also the night section, but that’s not as much fun as I’m not in it.
And also, do you really want to listen to Wendy Powley talk for 3 hours straight?

A buddha’s no good, a brass pagoda, in the northeast corner of your room is what you need.

MBIO’s awesome…I took it for 2 weeks last year then regretfully dropped it because I had 6 courses.
And, hmm, you still have all those chem’s to catch up on…wait till next year and you’ll have someone you know in your bchm class!! Where’s Jones’ posting his notes? It’s certainly not on webct…hehe, I love how I still have webct access…
And ECON is stupidly easy if you’re good at interpreting graphs.
I wish I was in cool classes
