Cilantro’s nasty

July 25th, 2006

From the Wikipedia article:

The leaves have a very different taste from the seeds, similar to parsley but “juicier” and with citrus-like overtones. Some people instead perceive an unpleasant “soapy” taste and/or a rank smell. This taste is believed to be a genetic trait, but has yet to be fully researched.

When you cook, consider the poor bastards who (like me) can taste the nastiness.

I so agree. It’s gross and used a lot in Vietnamese food.

The only way to ruin food faster than adding cilantro is by dumping it directly into the dumpster. Is there anything more disgusting than cilantro ? Who likes this ? Are their taste buds dead ? It tastes NOTHING at all like parsley. Parsley is pleasant. Cilantro is bitter and you don\’t need much to destroy any kind of food. If cilantro was added to ALL foods I would be Karen Carpenter thin.
