  • Quicksilver vs. Spotlight

    I use Quicksilver, which is essentially a program that gives access all my applications, documents, contacts, etc. by typing their name. Apple’s Spotlight is their desktop search, which searches all documents, contacts, etc. for whatever you type.

  • The arrival of television

    Charlie came down this past weekend and brought the television. TV + cable = uh oh. I haven’t actually watched anything yet (still using the laptop for commercial-free goodness) but the temptation’s there.

  • Ubuntu Dapper boot issues

    Monaco (my local Ubuntu box) recently refused to boot. This happened before, but I attributed it to hard drive problems. Not so.
    The error I’d get is:
    kernel panic - not syncing: vfs unable to mount root fs on unknown-block (hd0,1)
    Turns out grub keeps getting confused – (hd0,1) refers to hda1, but my boot partition is hda0. [...]
