Backup gone awry

By using rsync (an unfamiliar tool) with the –delete option, and not double-checking the backup, I was able to reformat my laptop and lose all my data.

Lucky me.

My most recent other backup is sitting on Monaco (about 3 months old), but my labmates keep stealing its ethernet cable. I’ll hopefully get it tomorrow, but my schedule isn’t happy with me and I already skipped a class today for my laptop recovery effort.

I lost 30GB music (including music purchase on iTMS), 1GB photos, all my QMO documents and graphics, and all my homework. I’m just glad I didn’t start working on my biochem lab until today.

Random latin for the day: Qui tacet consentire videtur — He who is silent is taken to agree.

We should organize a wake for your lost data. I’ll make teleconference wake arrangements from South Africa.
