World AIDS Day
To “celebrate” World AIDS Day, why not download this letter and send it off to the PM? Postage to the government is free, and they have to respond to every letter they receive. All you need to do is sign it and drop it in a mailbox.
Let Harper know that we care, and that he should too.

It may be callous, but I don’t care… I mean, I do to an extent, but if you’re poor enough that you can’t put a decent meal in your own belly you should not have kids. It does not take billions of dollars to print off informational pamphlets. Sprinkle them across the country, inform people that they risk very real and very deadly diseases if they have unprotected sex. Problem solved.
“Problem not solved!” you counter. And I concede, the problem is not solved. Beyond not being able to afford condoms even if they understand the threat, what needs to happen to change the situation?
-People need to work together on building better irrigation systems.
-People need to establish a better means for feeding the population.
-People need to stop reproducing when they cannot support a family.
-People need to give a damn.
And honestly, until that happens, any help we give is like giving a starving man a fish instead of teaching him to catch his own. There are very real problems and unfortunately they won’t be solved by giving food or removing debt.
I don’t support this movement because honestly if we are to be teaching them anything it should be how to build infrastructure where it is needed so they can become somewhat self-sustaining.
I’ve also heard a major problem is infidelity from the males due to cultural standards in some of the countries… This isn’t off the top of my head, this is from a documentary I saw on the subject once, though if it is wrong I would accept that fact easily.
Honestly, it shouldn’t even be Canada’s problem, but unfortunately we do live in a global society… And I agree, we all need to move forward if humanity is. Eating debt, making these countries not responsible for their expenditure is a terrible idea though. A reality type show was once filmed where a homeless man found 100k in a suitcase (planted by the camera crew) in a dumpster. He proceeded to waste the money on several cars for people he didn’t even know, and is now in more debt than he began with. Throwing money at the situation will almost definitely not help…
Anyway, just my two cents… Honestly I hope things improve, but I don’t think this will help. It’s attacking a problem by fixing the damage it creates rather than removing the problem.
